Facts about Iraqi Youth Assembly


The Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 2009 that works in 3 countries.

Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) fulfils its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in the conflict areas of the world; and by advocating on behalf of conflict-affected populations internationally, on the basis of humanitarian principles and the Human Rights Declaration. We understand “durable solutions” as any means by which the situation of refugees can be permanently and satisfactorily resolved, enabling them to live normal lives. Durable solutions can be voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement. In Iraq, Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) assists refugees in all aspects of integration; Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) actively participates in supporting the protection of refugees, and promoting durable solutions for conflict-affected populations.

Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) is an umbrella organization and is currently consisting of 30 members and voluntary groups, committed to the refugee cause. Membership of the Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) is open to non-party-political, voluntary, nationwide humanitarian and international organizations that work on a democratic basis, and whose aims conform to those of the Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA).

Providing refugees, internally displaced persons and other affected groups in situations of war and conflict with assistance according to their rights. This assistance can consist of relief and other humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and support to return home, as well as contributions to the promotion of durable solutions

Contributing to capacity building and co-operation between local and national authorities, as well as other relevant organizations. This work aims at strengthening advocacy and promoting solutions to problems related to situations of conflict, particularly with a view to improving the protection and reintegration of refugees and internally displaced persons

Under its mandate, Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) focuses on protection, relief, rehabilitation, post-conflict recovery, capacity-building, Over the years, Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) has developed particular expertise in relation to the following core sectors:

Housing and Small-Scale Infrastructure

Production and Income Generation

Food security & Agricultural rehabilitation and Development

Non-food items; Displacement-related Law and Information

Social Rehabilitation

Capacity Development of Duty-Bearers and NGOs (including networking)

Most of Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) activities are implemented by Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) programmer structures set up locally for the purpose to work with beneficiaries, local authorities and other stakeholders. However, Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) also implements through local partners when this is the best way to meet Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) mandate and values. In such cases, Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) is committed to assist the implementing partner strengthen its accountability and capacity.

Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) activities are funded by money raised from the by project bilateral donors and the United Nations. Iraqi Youth Assembly (IYA) are also funded by selling advisory and consultancy services related to the humanitarian aid sector.
